The 17th Hastings (Robsack Wood) Scout group was very fortunate to be able to hold some Beavers, Cubs and new Scouts section face to face meetings before the second lockdown began. Over the summer leaders had worked hard promoting our small group, and writing risk assessments. We managed to get a healthy size Beaver section, some new Cubs interest and enough interest to start a Scout section.
To be able to meet weekly, Shaun Kemp (Skip) and myself Aaron Goree- (Rikki) managed to hold three Beaver meetings each week for a month, so all new and existing Beavers could enjoy getting back into face to face scouting. It was hard work but also very rewarding- we managed to learn fire-lighting, made some pet rocks and had other socially distanced activities in the park and on the beach. We even crammed 'chip shop challenges' in amongst the fun. Feedback from parents/carers was very encouraging and some have offered help which is much appreciated.
Cubs section also met with Nicola Dean (Akela) in charge. And a few days before the second lockdown was announced both Shaun and I were thrilled to be able to hold our first Scout section meeting at our regular venue- the Robsack Centre in Bodiam Drive in St. Leonards on Sea. (The staff there have been so helpful and welcoming since we have been using their facilities).
We currently are waiting for meetings to restart but have got a safe programme planned for when we resume… (with spaces in all sections). It’s been a challenging year but at the 17th Hastings, we have kept the momentum going, through a lot of hard work and loads of enthusiasm.
